NDLEA Rearrests 83-Year-Old for Drug Trafficking

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has rearrested 83-year-old Uloma Uchechi Sunday for alleged drug trafficking on October 7 at her residence in Ite-Uzo, Umuaguma, Obingwa Local Government Area, Abia State. This arrest occurred barely a year after her conviction for the same offense on May 17, 2025, when she and her daughter, Chisom Uchechi, were found with various drugs and sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment or a fine of N200,000 each.
Following their release, Uloma allegedly resumed her criminal activities by operating a drug joint. In a separate operation, the NDLEA, in collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service, arrested South African Gebashe Sithandiwe Jessie at Port Harcourt International Airport with 32.74kg of cannabis concealed in her luggage.
The drugs were transported from Thailand via Doha. The NDLEA also intercepted significant drug consignments in various states, including Lagos and Plateau, and arrested several suspects related to these operations.
