NDPC and INEC Collaborate for 2027 Election Data Security

The National Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are partnering to safeguard data related to the 2027 elections. Dr.

Olatunji, speaking on behalf of the NDPC, revealed that the commission intends to engage political parties to provide training on legal processes for data management. Under Dr.

Olatunji's leadership, the NDPC has established the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, achieving significant milestones such as registering 7,000 data protection officers and auditing hundreds of organizations. The commission has also imposed sanctions on entities violating data privacy regulations and established Nigeria's first data privacy academy to develop a competitive workforce in data privacy professions.

Dr. Olatunji noted the growing culture of data privacy in Nigeria and the need for regulatory attention on emerging areas like artificial intelligence and cross-border data transfer.

The NDPC aims to support innovation while ensuring compliance with data protection standards and advocating for amendments to accommodate emerging technologies.
