Nigeria to Prosecute Data Tampering Ahead of 2027 Elections

The National Data Protection Commission (NDPC) of Nigeria, represented by Vincent Olatunji, has issued a warning regarding the prosecution of individuals who tamper with citizens' data in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections. This announcement was made during an interview on Saturday, as concerns about data privacy and the safety of voter information have intensified.

Olatunji stated that the commission will intensify its monitoring of how political actors handle personal data, especially as political parties and groups begin to collect large volumes of voter-related data. The NDPC aims to ensure that citizens' personal information is protected and that appropriate safeguards are in place to prevent unauthorized data disclosure.

Olatunji emphasized that any individual found to have revealed people's data will face prosecution, highlighting the seriousness of data privacy in the electoral process.
