NDPC and NiDCOM Collaborate on Data Protection Awareness

The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) are collaborating to raise awareness about data protection and privacy rights among Nigerians both domestically and in the Diaspora. This initiative follows a courtesy visit by NDPC's National Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, to NiDCOM in Abuja.

During the visit, Olatunji highlighted the critical need for responsible handling of personal information, especially in healthcare, where mishandling can lead to severe consequences. He noted that the NDPC was established to enhance Nigeria’s data protection framework and ensure compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

Olatunji offered support to NiDCOM through staff training and public awareness initiatives. In response, NiDCOM's Chairman/CEO, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, welcomed the training offer and stressed the importance of data privacy in their operations.

She also called for stronger partnerships with the Diaspora and raised concerns about individuals' control over their personal information online.
