NDPC and Police Urged to Investigate NIPSS Breach

A petition has been submitted to the National Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and the police regarding an alleged cybersecurity breach by the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS). The petition, initiated by Yushau Shuaib, claims unauthorized access to private digital correspondence belonging to the company PRNigeria, which is outlined as a violation of the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023.

The letter, dated April 10, 2026, was sent by Chidi Omej, who noted a lack of response from the NDPC since the complaint was filed on July 1, 2025. The petitioners, including Barrister Nima Salman Mann, Rear Admiral Abubakar Abdullahi Mustapha, and Professor Elia Wahab, express concerns that the breach undermines public trust in the institution.

CISA has called for an investigation by Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu, emphasizing the need for timely action to uphold data protection laws and restore public confidence.
