Tinubu Increases Armed Forces Salaries by Up to 80%

Former Senate Leader Ali Ndume praised President Bola Tinubu for approving significant salary increases for about 250,000 personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces. The salary adjustments, effective from next month, range from 30% for officers above the rank of colonel to 80% for personnel from private to staff sergeant.

This new arrangement will elevate the annual salary bill for Armed Forces personnel from N660 billion to N924 billion. Ndume, who previously chaired the Senate Committee on Army, described the salary review as a positive development that would enhance military morale.

He noted that this action follows Tinubu's recent expansion of military divisions from eight to twelve, indicating a strategic approach to combatting terrorism and banditry. Ndume also emphasized the need for adequate arms and ammunition, urging the President to fulfill his commitment to providing necessary resources for the military.

He suggested that the military's annual budget should be placed on First Line Charge to avoid bureaucratic delays.
