Tinubu Approves Up to 80% Salary Increase for Military

President Bola Tinubu has approved significant salary increases for Nigeria’s armed forces personnel, with adjustments ranging from 30% to 80%. A statement from Bayo Onanuga, the president’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, revealed that about 250,000 personnel will benefit from this new pay structure, which takes effect from September 1.

Officers above the rank of colonel, including Brigadier-Generals, Major-Generals, Lieutenant Generals, and Generals, will receive a 30% salary increase. Personnel from colonel down to warrant officer will see a 50% increase, while those ranked from Private to Staff Sergeant will enjoy an 80% increase.

This new pay package will elevate the yearly salary expenditure for the armed forces from N660 billion to N924 billion. The president expressed appreciation for the courage and sacrifices of the armed forces as they combat banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism, emphasizing the administration's commitment to troop welfare and modernization of military capabilities.
