NECO Reports Surge in Malpractice Cases During 2025 SSCE Exams

The National Examinations Council (NECO) revealed that 9,016 candidates engaged in malpractice during the 2025 SSCE external exams, representing a 47% increase from the previous year. The Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Prof.

Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, disclosed this information during the release of the exam results at the council's headquarters in Minna, Niger State. The exams were conducted from November 26 to December 13, 2025, with the results released 52 days after the last written paper.

Despite the spike in malpractice cases, the overall pass rate was 71.63%. NECO recommended the blacklisting of five exam supervisors and the derecognition of four exam centers due to malpractice.

The Registrar expressed concerns about sustaining quality examinations nationwide and highlighted the need for improved funding to enhance the council's operations. President Bola Tinubu's support for the education sector was acknowledged, and Dr.

Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, declared a zero-tolerance policy towards exam malpractice.
