NEDC Launches Kidney Disease Awareness in Bauchi

The Nigeria Economic Development Council (NEDC) and experts from the Nigeria Association of Nephrologists launched a public awareness campaign in Bauchi State to combat the increasing burden of chronic kidney disease. The event, held at the state central motor park on Tuesday, aimed to educate residents on preventive measures, early detection, and proper management of kidney-related illnesses.

Aliyu Isiyaku, the NEDC Bauchi State Coordinator, highlighted the initiative's goal to create awareness and provide residents with access to free medical screenings. Dr.

Moham Garba, head of the renal center at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, noted that chronic kidney disease is a significant public health concern in the northeast, often linked to hypertension, diabetes, and environmental conditions. The campaign aligns with World Kidney Day, emphasizing the impact of environmental factors on kidney health.

The outreach also included free blood pressure and blood sugar checks, with a focus on encouraging healthy lifestyle choices to manage underlying conditions.
