NEDC Invests N100bn in Solar Power for North-East

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has approved a N100 billion investment in a 50-megawatt solar power project to improve electricity supply across North-East Nigeria. Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Alkali announced this on Thursday during a press briefing in Abuja.
He emphasized that power is the region's most critical requirement for economic recovery and development, noting that 61 percent of residents lack access to electricity. The project will utilize modular solar-powered systems to provide reliable power to schools, hospitals, markets, and other essential public infrastructure across the six states of the North-East.
Alkali stated that the NEDC board had authorized the immediate commencement of the project, which is part of the commission's third phase of development focusing on economic expansion. Additionally, the NEDC plans to promote electric mobility by deploying 10,000 solar-powered electric tricycles and buses, which have been approved by President Bola Tinubu, to create jobs and support clean transportation.
