NDPHC Targets Renewable Energy Projects in Northern Nigeria

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) is set to transition to the second phase of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP), emphasizing renewable energy investments to improve electricity supply in northern Nigeria. Engr. Jennifer Adighije, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NDPHC, announced this during an oversight visit by the House of Representatives Committee on Power, chaired by Hon. Victor Nwokolo, on Wednesday in Abuja.

NIPP Phase 2 aims to diversify Nigeria's generation mix by utilizing renewable energy sources, particularly solar and mini-hydropower projects. Currently, NDPHC contributes approximately 4,000 megawatts to Nigeria's total installed generation capacity of about 12,000MW.

The company has completed 120 transmission projects and has built 10 power plants under NIPP Phase 1. Adighije also highlighted challenges such as transmission constraints and gas supply issues while noting significant achievements, including recovering over $12 million from debtors.
