Ganduje Highlights Neglect of Disabled in Northern Nigeria

Abdullahi Ganduje, the former governor of Kano State and former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), raised concerns about the neglect of persons living with disabilities (PWD) during a documentary premiere in Abuja on Friday. He highlighted that this neglect is contributing to the rising number of beggars across Northern Nigeria.

Ganduje made these remarks at the 10th anniversary of the organization "Let’s Talk Human," which focuses on the education of the deaf and blind and the sidelining of PWD in society. He noted that the lack of support leaves many PWD with no choice but to beg on the streets.

Ganduje called for proper investment in inclusive education and skill development, as well as technological assistance for PWD, to help them become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to society rather than depending on begging. He urged the government to prioritize disability inclusion and empower PWD to help reduce poverty and social challenges in the region.
