UNILAG Professor Warns on Workers' Well-Being Impact

Professor Adelaja Odukoya, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), delivered a keynote address at the 10th Dr. Bamisayo Franci Oluwagbemi Annual Colloquium held in Ado Ekiti on June 12.

He cautioned that Nigeria cannot achieve enduring economic growth while neglecting the well-being of its workforce. Odukoya argued that true productivity relies on human capacity rather than solely on technological advancements and capital investment.

He emphasized that workplace safety is crucial for social stability and national development, urging a collective commitment from the government, employers, and workers to ensure a safe working environment. Odukoya also called for practical actions to address current systemic issues and highlighted the legacy of Dr.

Bamisayo Franci Oluwagbemi, a pioneer in occupational health and safety, who passed away on June 3, 2016. He advocated for a cultural shift towards valuing human life and safety in workplaces across Nigeria.
