NELFUND Denies Suspension of Students’ Allowance Payments

The Nigerian Educ Loan Fund (NELFUND) issued a statement on Thursday in Abuja, dismissing reports that the federal government had suspended the payment of students' upkeep allowances under the student loan scheme. NELFUND described the circulating information as false and misleading, aimed at creating panic among student beneficiaries.

The agency specifically debunked a purported statement attributed to it that was published in the front page of a newspaper, which it claimed was fabricated and generated by artificial intelligence. Mr.

Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the Director of Strategic Communications at NELFUND, emphasized that neither the federal government nor NELFUND had issued any directive to suspend the upkeep allowance payments. He urged the public to rely on verified information from official communication channels and credible media organizations, cautioning against sharing unverified content that could cause unnecessary anxiety nationwide.

NELFUND reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring transparency in the disbursement of student loans and support.
