NELFUND Targets Schools Withholding Tuition Refunds

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has initiated actions against tertiary institutions that are reportedly withholding tuition refunds from students who have already paid their fees. This move follows complaints from beneficiaries regarding delays and refusals by these institutions to refund tuition fees, despite NELFUND having made direct payments on behalf of the students.

NELFUND expressed concern over arbitrary increases in tuition fees charged by these institutions, warning that such practices undermine the objectives of the federal government's student loan program. The student loan initiative was introduced by President Bola Tinubu to remove financial barriers to higher education without imposing additional burdens on students.

NELFUND is engaging with relevant authorities to ensure that eligible students receive their due refunds and that the institutions maintain fair and transparent practices in line with the objectives of the scheme.
