NELFUND Criticizes Universities for Tuition Refund Issues

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) issued a statement condemning tertiary institutions for withholding tuition refunds owed to students and for imposing arbitrary fee increases. This practice was reported to NELFUND, which expressed concern that such actions undermine the objectives of the student loan program introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration to expand access to higher education.

NELFUND noted that it had received reports of institutions delaying or refusing to refund students whose tuition fees had already been paid, despite NELFUND disbursing loans to these schools. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the Director of Strategic Communications at NELFUND, emphasized that the initiative was designed to ease the financial burden on students rather than create new challenges.

NELFUND reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding student interests and ensuring that institutions charge fair and transparent fees. The organization plans to engage relevant authorities to address these reported infractions.
