NANS Demands Urgent Action on Delayed Student Allowances

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has raised alarm over the delay in the disbursement of students' upkeep allowances under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) scheme, which has not been paid to beneficiaries for the past two months. NANS President Comrade Akintey Babatund Afeez issued a statement on Saturday, noting that numerous complaints have been received from students regarding the non-payment, which has created anxiety and hardship among them.

He emphasized that the delay undermines the purpose of the NELFUND initiative, which is designed to provide financial relief to Nigerian students. Afeez called on the Managing Director of NELFUND, Mr.

Akintund Sawyerr, and relevant authorities, including the Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, and the Minister of Finance, Mr.

Taiwo Oyedele, to urgently address the issue and provide a clear explanation for the delay. He warned that failure to resolve the matter promptly could lead to peaceful mass action by students, including occupying NELFUND headquarters.
