NELFUND Refutes Claims of Suspension of Student Payments

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has issued a statement refuting false claims circulating on social media that the federal government has suspended student upkeep allowance payments associated with the student loan scheme. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the Director of Strategic Communications at NELFUND, condemned the misleading reports, which included a fabricated statement falsely attributed to NELFUND and purportedly published by the Nigerian Tribune.

NELFUND emphasized that there has been no official communication from the federal government regarding any suspension of the upkeep allowance. The organization reassured stakeholders that it remains committed to the disbursement of student loans and upkeep allowances as mandated.

NELFUND urged the public to rely on verified information from official communication channels and warned against the spread of unverified content that could cause unnecessary anxiety among students and parents. The fund has released N206 billion in loans to support 1.6 million students in tertiary institutions since the loan application portal opened on May 24, 2024.
