Nelfund Launches Student Loan Scheme for Nigerian Students

Nelfund, introduced in June 2023, represents a pivotal initiative to enhance access to higher education in Nigeria by addressing financial barriers faced by students. Mr. Akintund Sawyer, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nelfund, visited the Federal University Dutsin-Ma in Katsina State on April 8, 2026, as part of a nationwide outreach campaign.

During this visit, he announced the disbursement of 240 billion Naira to cover tuition fees and living stipends for approximately 1.3 million students across public tertiary institutions in Nigeria, starting in 2024. This program aims to provide reliable financial support, allowing students to pursue their academic goals without the fear of financial setbacks.

The initiative marks a significant departure from past reliance on family finances and sporadic scholarships, promising a new era of educational access and equity in Nigeria.
