NEMA and IOM Facilitate Return of 145 Nigerians from Libya

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) received 145 Nigerian returnees who were evacuated from Benghazi, Libya. The returnees arrived at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at 8:27 PM aboard an Al Buraq Airlines flight as part of a voluntary return program.

According to Mohan Olatund, the head of NEMA's Lagos operations office, the group comprised 122 adults (46 males and 76 females) and 29 children (13 boys and 16 girls), including 27 infants (17 males and 10 females). Upon arrival, officials from the Nigeria Immigration Service conducted biometric registration to ensure proper identification and facilitate seamless reintegration.

The returnees were provided with essential support services, including food, potable water, medical attention, and ambulance services for those needing additional assistance. Logistics coordination and counseling were also made available to guarantee a safe, orderly, and dignified reception process for the returnees.
