NEMSA Certifies 3.3MW Solar Project at Gowon University

The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) has inspected and certified a newly commissioned 3.3-megawatt solar hybrid power project at Yakubu Gowon University. This certification followed an inspection, testing, and assessment to ensure compliance with technical standards and safety regulations.

The project was commissioned by Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe under the Federal Government’s Energising Education Programme (EEP), which is implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in collaboration with the World Bank. Tegbe emphasized the project's significance for educational infrastructure, highlighting the importance of reliable electricity for teaching and research.

REA's Managing Director/CEO, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, noted that EEP projects are positively impacting over 300,000 students and 50,000 staff across Nigeria. Vice Chancellor Hakeem Fawehinmi stated that the solar hybrid plant would enhance electricity supply for the university's academic and residential community.
