Nenadi Usman Elected First Female Labour Party Chairman

Nenadi Usman was elected as the National Chairman of the Labour Party during its national convention held on September 4, 2024, in Umuahia, Abia State, marking a historic moment as she becomes the first woman to lead a political party in Nigeria. Following the leadership vacuum created by the expiration of the former National Working Committee's tenure, Usman was appointed to lead the National Caretaker Committee.

She successfully navigated a turbulent period marked by leadership disputes, ultimately resolving the issues in favor of the party through an appellate court ruling. Usman, a former Minister of Finance and Senator, brings a wealth of experience to her new role, with immediate responsibilities aimed at ensuring electoral success in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

In her acceptance speech, she expressed gratitude to party members and pledged to foster unity and peace within the party. The newly elected National Working Committee includes key figures such as Iheanacho Obioma as National Secretary and Ken Eluma Asogwa as Deputy National Chairman.
