Labour Party to Hold Presidential Primary on May 23, 2026

The Labour Party, under the leadership of Nenadi Usman, has scheduled its presidential primary for May 23, 2026, in preparation for the 2027 general elections. This decision was reached during a meeting of the party's national executive council held in Abuja on Tuesday, where representatives from the Independent National Electoral Commission were present.

The party plans to submit its membership register to the INEC by April 15, 2026. Additionally, the council approved the dates for governorship, senatorial, and House of Representatives primaries, set for May 15, 2026.

The meeting also addressed various internal matters, including reports of misconduct linked to certain members, leading to the suspension of several individuals. The council emphasized the need to update the party's membership register using both digital and manual methods to improve record-keeping and ensure compliance with the Electoral Act of 2026.

Furthermore, the council agreed to fill vacant positions within the party through interim appointments until proper congresses can be held.
