Nenadi Usman Elected First Female Labour Party Chair

Nenadi Usman has emerged as the National Chairman of the Labour Party, elected during a convention held in Umuahia, Abia State. This historic election marks her as the first woman to assume the role of National Chairman in a political party in Nigeria.

Usman was elected alongside other members of the National Working Committee (NWC), which was ratified by acclamation. She previously led the party as the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee starting September 4, 2024, following a leadership vacuum created by the expiration of the former executive's tenure.

Her leadership was recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after a Federal High Court judgment on January 21, 2026, which was upheld by a unanimous judgment on April 21, 2026. In her acceptance speech, Usman expressed gratitude to party members for their confidence and pledged to strengthen the party's structure for greater electoral success.

She commended Abia State Governor Alex Otti for his exemplary leadership and emphasized the need for the newly elected NWC to provide purposeful leadership and engage with aggrieved party members.
