Gorkha District Faces Flooding After Landslide Blocks River
A landslide in Chumnubri village, located in Gorkha district, approximately 100 km west of Kathmandu, has blocked the Budhi Gandaki River, leading to significant downstream flooding. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority reported that two women and three men were out of contact, while the army rescued 49 people, including a foreigner whose nationality was not disclosed.
The flood has resulted in the destruction of about a dozen houses and two suspension bridges, as well as damage to a hydroelectric project camp, which lost some construction equipment. Dharmendra Kumar Mishra, the Gorkha district's senior bureaucrat, confirmed the situation's severity.
Dharam Raj Uprety, Chief of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, noted that the flooded river was rising and had washed away a highway bridge connecting Gorkha with Dhading district. Authorities have alerted residents along the river in Gorkha, Tanahun, Chitwan, East Nawalparasi, and West Nawalparasi districts regarding the flood.
