NERC Tasks Kaduna DisCo to Fix Losses in One Year

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has instructed the newly constituted interim board of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Plc (KAEDC) to implement significant reforms within one year to address high technical and commercial losses and a substantial metering deficit. NERC Chairman Musiliu Oseni emphasized the urgency of these issues in a statement while addressing the board and the Interim Administrator of KAEDC.

He recalled a previous intervention in 2024 that improved the DisCo’s performance and expressed expectations for immediate progress. The Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) also urged the new management to leverage existing metering programs to enhance accountability and revenue collection.

BPE Director-General Ayo Gbeleyi highlighted available metering initiatives for aggressive deployment. The five-member board, chaired by Abdullahi Garba, aims to improve KAEDC’s operational and financial performance, making it viable for potential sale.

The board's focus includes stabilizing the utility and addressing its outstanding challenges.
