NERC Calls for Investment to Enhance Nigeria's Power Supply

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has called on investors to utilize existing regulatory frameworks to finance large-scale projects aimed at improving electricity supply across Nigeria. This appeal was made by NERC Chairman Dr Musiliu Oseni through Director of Economic Regulation Abba Terab during a panel session at the 32nd Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja.
The discussion centered on the theme “Power Growth: Reliable Electricity for Industry and Prosperity.” Terab emphasized that NERC has established regulatory instruments to attract private capital into the electricity market, supporting the Federal Government's efforts to liberalize the sector through the Electricity Act and related regulations. The government is promoting decentralized electricity supply models, such as embedded generation, to enhance access to reliable power.
Other panelists, including Chijioke Okwuokenye of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company and Deen Solebo of Elektron, discussed the importance of regulatory support and gas infrastructure in building a sustainable electricity market.
