HBM Nigeria Calls for Climate Action at NEST 2026

HBM Nigeria Plc, formerly known as Lafarge Africa Plc and a member of the Huaxin Building Material Group, urged for accelerated climate action and sustainable infrastructure development during the Nigeria Environment Summit (NEST) 2026, which took place from June 17 to June 18, 2026, at the Continent Hotel in Abuja. Gbemiga Owolabi, Director of Human Resources at HBM Nigeria Plc, announced the summit's theme focused on unlocking Nigeria's green economy to drive climate action.

The summit gathered government officials, investors, private sector leaders, academia, and civil society to discuss strategies aimed at unlocking a $5 billion investment pipeline. Emmanuel Ilaboya emphasized the need for resilient and efficient infrastructure to address urban development pressures, while Rachel Ezembakw stressed the importance of worker safety in infrastructure development.

Dr. Edwin Edeh highlighted the necessity for coordinated action across sectors, and Mallam Balarab Abba Lawal called for accelerated investment in green financing mechanisms.
