CIOB Advocates for Climate Action via Sustainable Infrastructure

On World Environment Day 2026, the CIOB Nigeria Hub, represented by group head Onabekun Adekunl, issued a statement urging for climate action through sustainable infrastructure. The statement highlighted the critical role of the built environment in addressing climate change and advancing sustainable development.

It noted that Nigeria continues to pursue ambitious infrastructure development programs while considering environmental impacts. CIOB stressed that unregulated urbanization and poorly planned development contribute to resource scarcity and socio-economic tensions, which can fuel insecurity.

The organization expressed concern over environmental challenges such as desertification, flooding, erosion, and pollution, which threaten livelihoods. CIOB maintained that strategic planning and sustainable infrastructure development could serve as catalysts for national stability and prosperity.

The statement called for the enforcement of green policies and urban regulations to ensure sustainable development without compromising the planet. CIOB also advocated for stronger environmental regulations and the integration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles in infrastructure projects.
