Dangote Refinery to Make Nigeria a Net Petrol Exporter

The Dangote Refinery, located in Lekki, is projected to make Nigeria a net petrol exporter by March 2026, a historic milestone for the nation. The refinery aims to ship 44,000 barrels per day (bpd) of petrol, contributing to a reduction in Nigeria's petrol imports, which fell to 41,000 bpd, the lowest level recorded.

This development is anticipated to create a surplus of approximately 3,000 bpd by the end of March 2026. Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries, emphasized the importance of the refinery in addressing Nigeria's long-standing issues in the petroleum value chain.

Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, Chairman of the committee, described this achievement as a national pride and a strong signal for the stabilization of the domestic refining capacity.

The refinery's operation is expected to ease foreign exchange pressures, improve fuel availability, and strengthen energy security, while regulatory agencies are urged to ensure transparency and efficiency in the sector.
