New Commander Assumes Leadership in Guinea-Bissau

The Nigerian Army has completed the rotation of its troops serving under the ECOWAS Stabilization Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau, with Lieutenant Colonel Afam Junior Chidi assuming command from Lieutenant Colonel Bibode Clarke. The handover ceremony took place on August 3 at the Nigerian Contingent Headquarters in Bissau, transitioning from Nigerian Company 4 to Nigerian Company 5.

Major Yahaya Nasir Kabara, the Mission Public Information Officer, issued a statement regarding the event. In his farewell address, Clarke described the troop rotation as a routine exercise aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness and maintaining professionalism within the Nigerian Army.

He expressed gratitude to the officers and soldiers for their support during his one-year tenure and emphasized the contingent's role in maintaining peace and stability in Guinea-Bissau. Chidi commended Clarke for his leadership and pledged to continue supporting the mission's objectives.

The ceremony included the signing of handover notes, inspection of the Quarter Guard, and the formal transfer of command and the Nigerian Company flag.
