Housing Minister Darma Commits to Sector Regulation

On a recent occasion in Abuja, the newly appointed Housing Minister, Muttaqha Darma, committed to ensuring the regulation of Nigeria's built environment before his tenure ends. He received a delegation from the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), led by Prof. Zubair Abubakar, who congratulated him on his appointment.

Darma emphasized the need for a finalized policy framework to establish a coordinated regulatory system within the industry, which he plans to present to stakeholders for consultation later this month. The framework aims to address persistent challenges such as building collapses, quackery, and poor compliance with building codes.

He insisted that the industry cannot operate effectively without proper regulation and urged professional bodies to actively participate in the regulatory process. COREN's president expressed confidence that Darma would strengthen the built environment sector and improve professional standards in Nigeria.
