Kano State Launches Project Against Gender-Based Violence

The Kano State Government, in partnership with the African Enterprise Challenge Fund and the Development Research and Projects Centre, launched a project on Tuesday aimed at preventing and responding to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) against women in the agricultural value chain. The project, titled ‘Project Launch and Inception Meeting on Mainstreaming GBV Prevention and Response into the Agricultural Value Chain in Kano State,’ was introduced by Amina Sani, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Special Needs.

Sani urged community leaders to stop stigmatizing GBV and emphasized the importance of voicing out incidents to identify and support victims. The state government is already implementing programs to enhance women's economic well-being, providing monthly support of N50,000 to 5,200 women for business initiatives.

Sani also mentioned a recent intervention for a woman who suffered severe abuse, highlighting the ministry's commitment to protecting victims' rights. The ministry has established GBV desk officers across all 44 Local Government Areas to address reports of violence.
