During Game 4 of the NBA Finals, unrest erupted in New York, leading to the detention of 56 individuals by the New York Police Department (NYPD). The disturbances occurred as the New York Knicks achieved a stunning comeback against the San Antonio Spurs.

Ten NYPD officers were injured during the chaos, which included incidents of disorderly conduct and assaults on police officers. A spokesperson reported that charges included assaulting police officers and possession of a knife.

Video footage on social media depicted hostile fans jeering at Victor Wembanyama and his San Antonio teammates as they returned to their hotel. The unrest involved fans climbing onto moving vehicles and attempting to flip taxis, with fireworks being set off in the crowd.

The NYPD utilized stun grenades to disperse the gathering near Madison Square Garden, where approximately 10,000 fans had congregated. Following the incidents, authorities banned plans for public screenings near Madison Square Garden to prevent further unrest.
