New Zealand Expands Post-Study Work Visa for Graduates

New Zealand Immigration announced an expansion of the Post-Study Work Visa, effective from Monday, November 16, 2026. This change allows graduates who have completed a Level 7 graduate diploma under the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF) to qualify for the visa, provided they meet specific conditions.

Eligible graduates must have studied full-time in New Zealand for the entire duration of their graduate diploma and must have been enrolled from start to finish, with no credit earned through cross-crediting or prior learning. Additionally, applicants must hold a bachelor's degree, which can be obtained either in New Zealand or abroad, without restrictions on when it was awarded.

This expansion creates a new pathway for skilled graduates, particularly those who pursued a focused one-year program after earning a degree abroad. The Post-Study Work Visa enables international graduates to remain in New Zealand to gain work experience after their studies, significantly benefiting many international students, including those from African countries.
