New Zealand Introduces 5-Year Pathway Student Visa

New Zealand has launched the Pathway Student Visa, which allows international students to complete up to three consecutive programs without needing to reapply for a visa each time. This visa can cover a total of five years of study under a single approval, depending on the duration of the study pathway.

Students must have a structured, approved study plan and meet Immigration New Zealand's entry conditions. They can have a gap of up to 16 weeks between programs while remaining under the same visa.

Visa holders are permitted to work up to 25 hours a week during term time and full-time during scheduled breaks. To qualify, students need a formal offer from an approved provider, proof of financial capability for tuition and living costs, and must meet health and character requirements.

Immigration New Zealand processes 80% of applications within eight weeks, and all applications must be submitted online. Partners and dependent children cannot be added to the main application.
