New Zealand Sets Conditions for Partners of Student Visa Holders

New Zealand has outlined five specific conditions that foreign nationals must meet to visit the country as partners of student visa holders. This immigration pathway, known as the Partner of a Student Visitor Visa, is intended for individuals whose partners are studying in New Zealand on a valid student visa.

The conditions include: 1) the applicant must have a partner holding a New Zealand student visa who can support the application; 2) the couple must live together in a genuine and stable relationship; 3) applicants must demonstrate financial readiness to cover their living expenses or have an acceptable sponsor; 4) they must have clear plans to leave New Zealand before or at the end of their permitted stay; and 5) they must meet all other general visa requirements, including health and character checks. The visa allows holders to join their partners, travel in New Zealand, and enroll in study programs for up to three months, but they are not permitted to work in New Zealand, although remote work is allowed if the employer is outside the country.

Applications can be submitted concurrently with the student visa application, but the partner application will only be approved after the student visa is granted.
