Newcastle United Appoints Matthias Jaissle as Head Coach

Newcastle United announced the appointment of Matthias Jaissle as their new head coach on Wednesday, following the departure of Eddie Howe. Jaissle, a 38-year-old German, previously managed Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli, leading them to continental success.

Despite lacking experience in Europe's top five leagues, Newcastle expressed confidence in his capabilities. Jaissle described his new role as a significant moment in his coaching career, highlighting the club's rich history and ambitious vision as key factors in his decision.

He aims to build on the foundation established at Newcastle, which has seen recent progress. Jaissle's managerial career began with Liefering in Austria, where he achieved a second-place finish, before moving to Red Bull Salzburg, winning back-to-back Austrian Bundesliga titles and the Austrian Cup.

He succeeded Eddie Howe, who transformed Newcastle since November 2021, leading them to their first major trophy in over fifty years and securing UEFA Champions League qualifications. However, last season was challenging, with Newcastle finishing 12th in the Premier League.
