Newcastle Signs Nico Gonzalez from Man City for £50m

Newcastle United has finalized the signing of midfielder Nico Gonzalez from Manchester City in a transfer deal that could reach £50 million with add-ons. The 24-year-old Spaniard completed his medical on Wednesday and will don the No. 6 shirt at St James’ Park.

Gonzalez's transfer marks Newcastle's seventh signing of the summer and the second under head coach Matthias Jaissle, following Amar Dedic's arrival. Prior to his move, Gonzalez bid farewell to his Manchester City teammates on Tuesday before heading to Newcastle, where he was introduced to supporters ahead of the Carabao Cup match against West Brom.

Gonzalez joined Manchester City from Porto in February 2025, making 59 appearances and scoring four goals. His career also includes significant experience at Barcelona and Porto, which Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson cited as key factors in making him the club's primary target for the position.

Wilson expressed satisfaction with the transfer, stating that they had worked patiently on it for several weeks.
