Nigerian Ambassador to Algeria, Lele, Dies at 50

Lele, the newly appointed Nigerian Ambassador-designate to Algeria, died in the early hours of April 19, 2026, in Ankara, Turkey, due to prolonged illness. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed this development in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, with spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa confirming the news.

Lele was born in 1976 in Gamawa, Bauchi State, and studied economics at Bayero University, Kano. He served in various Nigerian missions abroad, including in Berlin, Lomé, and Riyadh.

The Ministry noted that Dunoma Umar, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, received Lele's remains at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. The Ministry described Lele as a hardworking, humble, and fine officer who will be sorely missed.

The federal government extended condolences to his family and the people of Bauchi State, praying for the repose of his soul and strength for those he left behind.
