Newswatch founding editor, Mohammed, has broken his silence on the assassination of Dele Giwa, who was killed on October 19, 1986, after receiving a parcel bomb at his Lagos residence. The incident, which shook Nigeria, remains one of the country's most notorious unsolved murders.

Following Giwa's assassination, speculation swirled, with rumors linking the case to Gloria Okon, a young Nigerian woman arrested in Kano for alleged drug trafficking. Okon's mysterious death in police custody fueled whispers that she was silenced to prevent her from exposing influential figures, including President Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida and his wife, Maryam.

Mohammed, in his forthcoming memoir, "Beyond Expectations," dismissed the narrative linking Okon to Giwa's murder as a deliberate distraction. He emphasized that the rumors compromised serious efforts to uncover the real killer and maintained that the circumstances surrounding Okon's death had nothing to do with Giwa's assassination.
