NEYGA Criticizes SERAP Over Court Ruling on DSS Operatives

NEYGA condemned SERAP for its statement regarding a Federal High Court ruling that awarded N100 million in damages to two defamed operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS). The court also ordered SERAP to publish an apology in two national newspapers and on two television stations.

NEYGA described SERAP's characterization of the judgment as a "travesty" and expressed disappointment in SERAP's attempt to link the ruling to a suppression of free speech. Alhaji Ibrahim Dan Musa, NEYGA's spokesperson, stated that SERAP's comments were deeply troubling and irresponsible, suggesting that the organization pretended to promote socio-economic rights while failing to hold itself accountable.

NEYGA also noted that the judgment by Justice Halilu Yusuf indicated that SERAP could not seek to hold others accountable while avoiding scrutiny itself. The group emphasized the importance of protecting the rights of individuals and commended the DSS leadership for taking legal action to defend its operatives.
