Ex-South East Governors Endorse Tinubu for 2027

On Tuesday, October 3, 2023, five former governors from the South East region of Nigeria, including Chris Ngige (former Anambra State governor), Sullivan Chime (former Enugu governor), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (former Enugu governor), Okezie Ikpeazu (former Abia governor), and Martin Elechi (former Ebonyi governor), formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office during a meeting in Enugu. This endorsement was part of a communiqué issued after the deliberations of the newly established South East Forum, which aims to provide advisory input on regional and national issues.

David Umahi, the current Minister of Works and a former governor of Ebonyi State, highlighted the forum's goal of fostering unity among former governors, regardless of political affiliations, and strengthening support for the incumbent governor. The communiqué also noted that the forum would engage directly with current governors to promote governance initiatives.

Notably, Peter Obi, another former governor, was absent from the meeting but is expected to participate in future gatherings.
