NGIJ and NILDS Partner to Boost Legislative Accountability

The Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ), led by its president Malam Abdulrahman Aliagan, is initiating a strategic partnership with the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) to strengthen legislative reporting and promote democratic accountability in Nigeria. During a courtesy visit to NILDS headquarters in Abuja, Aliagan discussed the importance of evidence-based journalism and the need for collaboration in areas such as legislative training, joint research, and public policy dialogue.

Professor Abubakar O. Suleiman, the Director General of NILDS, welcomed the proposal, emphasizing the institute's commitment to enhancing democratic governance through research and training.

The partnership aims to improve public discourse and transparency, particularly at the subnational level. NGIJ plans to host the Dele Giwa Memorial Annual Lecture in June, with NILDS' Director General expected to deliver the keynote address.

The collaboration is seen as a significant step towards improving the quality of legislative coverage in Nigeria.
