Stakeholders Gather in Abuja for Legislative Accountability

On March 3, a significant stakeholder convergence took place in Abuja, organized by the Erudit Growth Advancement Foundation (ERGAF) Africa in partnership with several civil society organizations, including Christian Aid and the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC). The event aimed to advance legislative governance accountability in Nigeria, emphasizing the urgency of institutional reforms to ensure that political representatives serve the interests of the populace.

Chioma Lucki, speaking on behalf of the conveners, highlighted the need for concrete actions rather than mere advocacy. The convergence sought to establish a collaborative framework among stakeholders, endorsing a memorandum of understanding to leverage the National Assembly's Barometer insights for policy reform advocacy.

The initiative aims to enhance citizen participation in the policy process and elevate legislative standards nationwide, addressing the decline in public trust and the quality of legislative debates in Nigeria.
