NGO Launches Project to Increase Awareness of Police Act 2020 in Nigeria

The NGO, Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC), led by Gideon Arinz, has initiated a project to increase awareness and understanding of the Police Act 2020 in Nigeria. The project, supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO), aims to enhance public trust and promote gender-responsive policing in the country.

The project will span six geopolitical zones, including Enugu, Borno, Adamawa, Kano, Plateau, Lagos, Ogun, Akwa Ibom, Niger, and the Federal Capital Territory. Kemi Okenyodo, the Executive Director of the NGO, highlighted the importance of addressing the gaps in understanding and inconsistent implementation of the law within the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).

Okechukwu Nwanguma, a former Executive Director of RULAAC, criticized the poor implementation of the Police Act, attributing it partly to political interference hindering effective oversight of the police force.
