Wednesday's session presented a nuanced market picture, with robust trading activity masking divergent sector performance. The ASI settled at 246,697.86 points as investors rotated across equities, executing 709.3 million shares worth ₦29.2 billion—indicating sustained participation despite selective weakness.
Insurance stocks dominated the gainers' list, with LASACO, SUNUASSUR, and CNIF posting double-digit percentage gains. LASACO surged ₦0.22 to ₦2.42 (+10.00%), while CNIF climbed ₦14.00 to ₦154.30 (+9.98%). NEM and VFDGROUP also advanced 9.97% and 7.86% respectively, suggesting renewed investor appetite for non-banking financials. This sector rotation reflects tactical repositioning within the portfolio mix.
Conversely, transport and regional equities encountered headwinds. LEGENDINT and CORNERST each tumbled 10.00%—LEGENDINT falling ₦0.45 to ₦4.05, while CORNERST dropped ₦0.60 to ₦5.40. TIP declined 9.91% (₦3.30 loss), and ABCTRANS fell 9.45% (₦0.60 loss), signalling profit-taking or sector-specific concerns.
Volume concentration remained high: FCMB led with 90 million shares traded, followed by FIRSTHOLDCO (45.6 million) and ACCESSCORP (38.1 million). LASACO's 30.3 million shares traded underscored strong conviction in insurance plays.
Market capitalisation stood at ₦159.2 trillion, reflecting relative stability beneath intraday volatility.
Investors should monitor whether insurance momentum sustains or consolidates in tomorrow's session.
