The Nigerian Exchange closed at 248,542.41 points on Monday with a mixed performance, as strong gains in financial stocks and utilities were offset by notable declines in energy and hospitality sectors. Trading activity remained robust with ₦23.78 billion in value traded across 1.055 billion shares.

The NGX delivered a tale of two markets on August 10th, with selective strength unable to sustain broader market momentum. The ASI closed at 248,542.41 points as investors rotated between winners and losers across different sectors.

Financial stocks led the charge higher. FGSUK2027S3 surged 19.03% (₦15.99) to close at ₦100.00, signaling strong appetite for fixed-income instruments in the current macro environment. ACCESSCORP posted a solid 6.68% gain (₦1.80 to ₦28.75) and dominated volume metrics with 42.4 million shares traded, indicating sustained institutional accumulation. CHAMS climbed 7.35% to ₦4.38, contributing to the financial services rally despite modest absolute gains.

Transport and logistics stocks also impressed. NAHCO jumped 9.29% (₦13.00 to ₦153.00), while AIRTELAFRI delivered an 8.59% advance (₦498.60 to ₦6,300.00), suggesting investor confidence in logistics and telecommunications infrastructure plays.

However, energy and hospitality sectors provided headwinds. ETI declined 9.92% (₦7.15 to ₦64.95), while CAVERTON shed 9.09% (₦0.50 to ₦5.00). IKEJAHOTEL lost 8.41% (₦3.95 to ₦43.00), reflecting continued sector pressure. AVACAP and NPFMCRFBK also retreated, each losing over 9%.

Trading breadth favoured liquidity seekers, with CONHALLPLC dominating volumes at 353.7 million shares. Market capitalisation stood at ₦160.43 trillion across 55,414 deals, indicating healthy participation despite the divergent price action.

Investors should monitor whether tomorrow's session sustains the financial sector rally or rebalances toward underperforming sectors.
