NHIA Launches Neonatal Care Initiative in Kano State for UHC Advancement

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) launched a pilot Neonatal component of the Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (CEmONC) program in Kano State, as part of efforts to advance Nigeria's progress towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The initiative, an extension of NHIA's maternal health program, aims to provide neonatal care to improve healthcare access for newborns.

The program, introduced following the success of the maternal component, has already benefited thousands of women nationwide, with Kano State alone witnessing significant improvements in emergency obstetric services. The Kano State Ministry of Health welcomed the expansion, emphasizing the importance of neonatal care in reducing infant mortality rates and ensuring better healthcare outcomes for newborns.
