NIDCOM Urges Diaspora Athletes to Invest in Youth

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), called on Nigerian athletes in the diaspora to invest in the next generation of African talent. This appeal was made during a visit to Abuja, where she met with Nigerian basketball star Ejimofor Anosik, co-founder of the Meta Africa Sport Foundation.

Dabiri-Erewa commended the foundation's efforts in supporting young African athletes through mentorship, describing it as a strong example of the Nigerian diaspora's meaningful contributions to youth development across the continent. Anosik, who has a notable career including being the first player in history to win major accolades such as the NBL Championship and the 2026 Final MVP, emphasized the importance of giving back to the community.

He has mentored hundreds of young people and donated nearly 3,000 pairs of basketball shoes across Africa. The foundation also runs programs that equip youth with skills beyond sports.

Anosik announced plans to launch a basketball tournament in Nigeria to identify and nurture emerging talent at the grassroots level.
